Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness where the gateway to the unconscious is opened to a greater or lesser degree. It is called being in a trance state (we may say daydream) and we are all familiar with it. Any time you have been driving along the motorway and realized you've passed your exit or been watching TV and not heard someone calling your name - you've been in a trance state.

Hypnosis is a tool for gaining access to your unconscious and is useful in psychotherapy, relaxation and self hypnosis for giving yourself a 'power nap'

When hypnosis is used clinically it is called hypnotherapy and the therapist needs to be trained in counselling and psychotherapy as well as hypnosis.
